Sebring, FL- A Florida police department is getting into the Olympics in a big way this week as patrol officers add a balance beam to their standard sobriety test.
"We were looking for a creative way to show our support for our Olympic athletes," said a department spokesperson. "The balance beam seemed like a great way to continue to protect the community and have a little fun at the same time."
As a side benefit, the balance beam has led to over three dozen more DUI arrests, up nearly 80% over the standard sobriety test.
The department plans to continue using the beam until the end of the Olympics on August 8.
