Nashville, TN - According to reports, nearly a dozen Tennessee Republican State Senators joined together on Friday to remove all Nathan Bedford Forrest souvenir busts from the Capitol gift shop during a rare Buy One, Get One sale.
One unnamed GOP Senator was single-handedly responsible for removing several cases of the miniature busts and putting them in his car.
Another Republican Rep., who asked to remain nameless, told reporters, "We're just all trying to do our part to get these statues off the Capitol grounds." He was later overheard telling a fellow Senator that they make great stocking-stuffers.
By 3:00 p.m., the entire stock of Nathan Bedford Forrest souvenir busts had been removed from the premises, just hours before a "Free Capitol Hill" rally in Legislative Plaza. It is unclear if the two events are connected.
