Nashville, TN - Lyft announced on Thursday that eye masks will now be mandatory for both drivers and passengers across the country.
Drivers and their riders will also be required to use the company's mobile app to confirm they are wearing their masks and following other CDC health regulations before any services can be provided.
In addition to the new mask regulation, passengers and drivers are required to sit in the back whenever possible, leaving the front seats empty. Open windows are also encouraged to ensure proper air circulation and help masked drivers better navigate via smell.
Any drivers or passengers who disagree with the new procedures will be barred from using the company's platform.
It is expected that Uber will institute similar safety precautions in the coming days.
